The Continental Divide winds through the eastern portion of this high-altitude landscape, anchoring a complex system of drainages within the Gila National Forest. This 1990s revision reveals a land defined by its water management and forestry infrastructure, including the Negrito Work Center and the nearby Negrito Airstrip. A network of canyons, such as Telephone Canyon and Eckleberger Canyon, carve through the terrain, leading toward key watering points like Gwynn Cienega and Ridge Tank. While much of the area is governed by the Forest Service, vestiges of private enterprise and local culture appear at the Brennan Ranch and the curiously named Sheepherders Baseball Park. The presence of numerous protracted blocks indicates the unsurveyed nature of these remote sections of Catron County, where transportation is limited to rugged corridors like Beaverhead Road and Bursum Road.
