Bering Land Bridge Nat Pres encompasses the vast majority of this coastal Seward Peninsula landscape, preserving a wilderness where the land meets the Chukchi Sea. The geography is defined by a complex network of coastal water bodies, including the expansive Arctic Lagoon and Ikpek Lagoon, which are separated from the open sea by narrow barrier features. Inland, the terrain is a mosaic of tundra and wetlands drained by meandering waterways such as the Kugrupaga River, Naluk River, and Upkuarok Cr. The Kugrupaga Inlet serves as a primary breach through the shoreline, connecting the inland aquatic systems to the arctic marine environment. This survey captures a modern look at the shifting hydrography of a region fundamentally shaped by its prehistoric role as a terrestrial connection between continents.
