About this map

Black Hills National Cemetery and the Old Fort Meade Military Boundary anchor the northern landscape of this Meade County survey. The small settlement of Tilford sits along the Chicago and North Western rail line, which cuts a sharp path through the valley between the rising peaks of the Black Hills National Forest. To the west, the terrain is defined by numerous drainage systems such as Beatty Gulch, Syndicate Gulch, and Breakneck Gulch, which flow from the higher elevations near Bald Mountain.
