The settlement of Tunis sits along Us-87 in this central Montana landscape, where the high plains are deeply incised by complex drainage systems. To the north, the Teton River winds through a series of sharp bends, while the southern boundary is defined by a wide reach of the Missouri River. The terrain between these two major watercourses is marked by numerous ephemeral draws and coulees, including Eightmile Coulee and Bird Coulee, which illustrate the erosional patterns characteristic of the Chouteau County region.
