Okanogan Range peaks and deep drainage basins define this portion of the Okanogan National Forest as it was documented in the early 2000s. Surface water patterns show a dense network of seasonal and perennial streams, including Libby Creek and its South Fork Libby Creek, which carve through numerous named canyons such as Chicamun Canyon and Elderberry Canyon. These waterways and ridges like Newby Ridge provided the natural framework for early forest management and mining access, long before modern infrastructure reached the higher elevations of the Eighth Standard Parallel North.
