Chulahoma and Tyro anchor this landscape during a period of significant hydraulic change along the border of Marshall, Tate, and Lafayette counties. The map captures the newly formed Sardis Reservoir flooding the bottomlands of the Little Tallahatchie River, a project documented here as of December 1944 under the Flood Control Act. This massive engineering effort reshaped the geography near Harmontown and Teckville, while the surrounding uplands remained dotted with traditional rural hubs.

Genealogists will find a high density of rural institutions, from the Perkins Cons Smith-Hughes Sch to the Lammey Fam Cem. Dozens of combined church and school sites, such as St Josephs Ch & Sch and Mt Vernon Ch & Sch, illustrate the era's community structure before the consolidation of rural districts.
