Pogromni Volcano dominates this northern stretch of Unimak Island, its slopes descending toward the cold waters of the Bering Sea. The landscape is a remote expanse of the Aleutian Islands Wilderness, where narrow 4wd tracks and a lonely Landing Strip provide the only terrestrial links to the outside world. This 1989 provisional record documents the rugged coastal geography of the Aleutians East Borough, specifically the hazardous maritime passage at Unimak Pass.

Navigational safety is marked at Cape Sarichef by the presence of a Lighthouse, positioned to guide vessels away from the rocky outcrops of Sealion Point. The coastline is carved by glacial and volcanic activity, featuring distinct landforms like Raven Point and the volcanic debris of Lava flows. Inland, the hydrology is defined by short, steep drainages such as Beartrack Creek and Cataract Creek, which empty into Dublin Bay and the sheltered Tarheel Lagoon.
