Valier sits at the southwestern corner of this Montana prairie landscape, overlooking the expansive waters of Lake Frances. The 1930s survey documents a region defined by its water management and agricultural settlement, where the Lake Frances Dam and a network of canals sustain life on the high plains. Further north, the Marias River carves a deep, winding path through the terrain, forming a natural boundary near the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.
