Valley City sits at the northern edge of this arid Grand County landscape, where the Mancos Desert W meets the base of Copper Mine Ridge. The terrain is defined by a series of distinct geological flats and washes, including the Klondike Flat to the southeast and the drainage networks of Thompson Wash and Crescent Wash further north. These natural features shaped the early routes through the region, now followed by modern thoroughfares and primitive tracks like Blue Hills Rd.
