Vermillion Mesa dominates this corner of Northwest Colorado, where the high desert landscape is deeply incised by a network of seasonal drainages. The Vermillion Cr flows through the northwest, while the remainder of the terrain is defined by dramatic erosional features like Douglas Draw, Big Bend Draw, and West Boone Draw. These landforms dictate the passage of modern routes such as State Highway 318 and various county roads including County Road 10.
