Hughes Cem and a network of desert springs define this arid stretch of Moffat County. The landscape is dominated by the broad upland of Vermillion Mesa, which is dissected by numerous topographical depressions including Douglas Draw, Kraft Draw, and Rye Grass Draw. These ephemeral drainages flow toward Vermillion Cr, which cuts across the northwest corner of the quadrangle. Local landmarks like Dry Knob and Hughes Flat provide orientation points in a region primarily defined by its hydrology and rugged relief.
