The Yellowstone River cuts a wide path through this portion of Yellowstone County, shaping a landscape defined by prominent flats and deeply etched coulees. The small settlement of Waco sits near the river's south bank, positioned between the water and the transportation corridor defined by Custer Frontage Rd. North of the river, Sevenmile Flat provides a broad, level expanse above the valley floor, while to the south, the terrain becomes increasingly complex as it rises toward Pine Ridge.
