Waimea Canyon State Park and the Na Pali-Kona Forest Reserve define the landscape of central Kauai in the mid-1960s. The deep canyons and steep ridges are marked by dramatic water features, including Waipoo Falls and the many cascades along the Waialae River. A complex network of irrigation and power infrastructure is visible, including the Mauka Powerhouse and several gaging stations along the Waimea River.

Remote outposts like Waialae Cabin and named ridges such as Kaluahaulu Ridge and Kohua Ridge provide essential navigation points for the various trails and jeep tracks that traverse the area. To the south, industrial development appears in the form of a Penstock, Flume, and Ditch systems near Kepani Res, showing the management of water resources as they flow toward the coastal plains. This survey offers a precise look at the interior topography before modern development altered these traditional access routes.
