Willamette National Forest and Umpqua National Forest converge in this high-elevation region of the Calapooya Mountains. The landscape is defined by the headwaters of the Middle Fork Willamette River and the southern reach of Hills Creek Lake. Significant geographical markers such as Warner Mtn and Youngs Rock dominate the eastern terrain, while Sand Prairie and the Little Pine Openings provide distinct clearings among the dense timber. A complex drainage system feeds the river, including Butcherknife Cr, Bohemia Cr, and Youngs Cr. This map documents the intersection of these two major national forests, illustrating the topographic transition between the Cascades and the Calapooya range as it appeared during the 2020 survey.
