Warsaw occupies the high bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River at a significant geographical bend where the borders of Illinois and Missouri meet. This 2021 landscape illustrates the complex hydrology of the river bottomlands, characterized by a series of large islands and side channels such as Kamps-Stiens Island, Hackley Island, and Kusie Island. The transition from the alluvial plain to the dissected uplands is marked by steep ravines carved by Shuhart Cr and Cedar Glen Cr.
