The high alpine headwaters of the Ashley National Forest are defined by an intricate network of glacial lakes and drainage basins at the meeting of several county lines. Central to this 1963 survey is the Whiterocks River, which flows south from Whiterocks Lake and Dollar Lake through a landscape carved by the Middle Fork and South Fork Sheep Creek. Historical transit through these high passes is marked by an Old Indian Treaty Boundary and several segments of Jeep Trail, illustrating how the Uinta Mountains were navigated before modern infrastructure reached these elevations.
