The Wind River Indian Reservation landscape is defined by the high, arid plateau of Wise Flat, captured here in the early 1950s. The terrain is deeply etched by watercourses that drain the surrounding highlands, notably the North Fork Little Wind River and South Fork Little Wind River which converge in the southern portion of the quadrangle. These river valleys provide a sharp contrast to the flat-topped mesas and buttes, such as Norkok Butte, which serve as prominent landmarks for those navigating the region.
