Red Mountains dominate this high-desert landscape in Lander County, anchored by the prominent peak of Red Mtn. The terrain is characterized by a complex network of seasonal drainages and critical water sources, evidenced by the numerous named springs scattered throughout the canyons. To the east, Wood Spring Canyon and its associated Wood Springs provide a focal point for the local geography, while the southern reaches are defined by Dry Canyon and its high-elevation Dry Canyon Summit.
