Small rail-side settlements like Bixler, Werner, and Orwood line the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad, which bisects the region. Remote life in the delta is highlighted by the presence of the Rindge Sch and the Mansion House located near a tide gage. River crossings were still reliant on local infrastructure at this time, evidenced by the Woodward Island Ferry and the Mildred Island Ferry, alongside several swing bridges.
