The low-lying Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta landscape is defined by its complex network of sloughs and reclaimed tracts in this mid-century survey. Massive levee systems separate the agricultural Holland Tract and Veale Tract from the winding channels of the Old River and Middle River. Human intervention in the waterway is evident in the straight lines of the Empire Cut and the engineering of the Mokelumne Aqueduct crossing the Orwood Tract.
