About this map

The Black River meanders across this Lowcountry landscape, defining the watery geography of the border between Clarendon County and Williamsburg County. In the early 1980s, when these aerial photographs were captured, the area remained a network of expansive wetlands and small agricultural settlements. The terrain is characterized by numerous "bays" and swamps, such as Conyers Bay, Pudding Swamp, and Dickey Swamp, which surround the small communities of Workman and Mouzon.
