Altura and Bethany anchor this region of eastern Minnesota, where the agricultural uplands transition into the deeply carved drainages of the S Fork Whitewater River and Whitewater River. The landscape is defined by the sharp contrast between the level fields of Norton Twp 15 and the narrow, winding corridors of Kieffer Valley, Straight Valley, and Chaffe Ravine. These coulee-like formations channel water through the limestone-rich terrain, fed by natural features such as Crystal Spring and Holt Spring.

Local history is preserved in the placement of the Hebron Cem and Trinity Cem, which remain as permanent markers of the rural community's heritage. The road network, including Co Hwy-33 and MN-248, traces the high ridges and valley floors, connecting the small settlement of Oakridge in the north to the southern townships. This survey illustrates how the area's hydrology, particularly creeks like Rollingstone Cr and Bear Cr, has dictated the placement of homesteads and transportation routes.
