Pend Oreille Lake and its intricate shoreline at Scenic Bay anchor the northeastern portion of this study, where the Naval Reservation and Farragut Wildlife Management Area sit at the transition from water to wood. To the west, the settlements of Athol and Bayview are linked by the Northern Pacific Railroad Grade, reflecting the early transport corridor that served the timber and mining interests of northern Idaho. Local history is etched into the landscape at Mountain View Cem and the small Cedar Mtn Sch located near Belmont.
