The Near Islands, part of the larger Aleutian Islands chain, are defined by extreme topography and a jagged coastline where the land meets the Bering Sea. This 2021 survey illustrates the dramatic elevation changes of the Wrangell Range, which dominates the interior of this section of Attu Island. The coastline is marked by deep indentations, specifically the waters of Holtz Bay to the north and Etienne Bay to the south.
