The Noatak National Preserve encompasses most of this landscape, dominated by the winding path of the Noatak Wild and Scenic River. This protected corridor flows through a dramatic geological transition, most notably at the Grand Canyon, where the water carves through the southern reaches of the De Long Mountains. To the north, the Poktovik Mountains rise, while the Maiyumerak Mountains and the broader Baird Mountains chain define the southern and eastern horizons. Several significant tributaries, including the Kukuktuk River and Mukachak Cr, drain the high country into the primary river valley. The map documents an area defined by natural boundaries and the intersection of massive mountain ranges, including the Isacheluich Mountains to the northeast and the Nakolik River drainage along the southeastern edge.
