Bakersville and the surrounding agricultural valleys of Somerset County are defined by the winding course of Laurel Hill Creek and its many tributaries. This 2019 survey captures a landscape of small crossroads settlements such as Lavansville, Jimtown, and Indiantown, linked by a network of rural roads and the prominent path of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which passes through the Laurel Hill Tunnel. To the north, the terrain rises sharply toward the Laurel Summit and Bald Knob, where the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail and numerous hiking paths like the Wolf Rocks Trail traverse the forested ridges.
