About this map

The Little Niangua River winds through this Camden County landscape, defining the topography south of its confluence with the Lake of the Ozarks. This 2015 survey documents the rural character of the region, where the historic Bannister Ford crosses the water near the settlement of Bannister. The area is densely packed with family-named landmarks and genealogical sites, including the Whitaker Cemetery, Grainger Cemetery, and Barnumton Cemetery near the community of Barnumton. Numerous springs such as Toby Spring, Blue Spring, and Poe Spring dot the terrain, feeding into a complex system of hollows. These deep valleys, including Sulphur Springs Hollow and Lime Kiln Hollow, reveal the intricate drainage patterns that characterize the hills surrounding the river and the northern reaches of the lake.
