Battle Mountain Airport and the settlement of Rosny anchor the northern reaches of this high-desert landscape in Lander County. The terrain is defined by the steep eastern rise of the Shoshone Range, where Slaven Canyon cuts through the mountainside. Water sources, vital for life in the Great Basin, are clearly marked, including the namesake Bateman Spring and several seasonal flows such as Rock Cr, Batemans Cr, and Slaven Cr.
