Atchee occupies a central point along Co HWY 201 in this 2016 study of the Garfield County high country. The landscape is defined by the significant ascent to Baxter Pass, where the drainage systems of the Book Cliffs region diverge. To the north, waters flow through Snow Grove Canyon and Sawmill Gulch toward Baxter Reservoir, while the southern slopes are carved by deep incisions like Railroad Canyon and Wagon Canyon. This network of canyons and gulches, including Hells Hole Canyon and Buttermilk Canyon, illustrates the complex erosion patterns typical of the Colorado Plateau. The presence of Coal Canyon near Grassy Mtn hints at the mineral history of the area, while the paths of W Salt Cr and Bitter Creek show how water has historically dictated movement through these steep corridors.
