The Yukon River defines the northern edge of this landscape, winding through a complex network of braids and islands within the Yukon Flats. The territory is dominated by seasonal waterways and shifting terrain, notably Peace Island and Marten Island, which are carved out by the river's path. South of the main channel, the Marten Slough meanders through a low-lying wetland environment typical of the interior.
