About this map

Wrangell - Saint Elias National Park and the adjacent Wrangell - Saint Elias Wilderness dominate this high-altitude landscape along the international border in the early 1980s. The geography is defined by a massive glacial system, where the Chitina Glacier flows south of Mount Chitina to meet the expansive ice fields of the Logan Glacier. These moving rivers of ice, including the Walsh Glacier, Baldwin Glacier, and Fraser Glacier, illustrate a complex network of moraines and crevasses that shape the terrain. Positioned at the junction of the Alaska Yukon boundary and the United States Canada line, this provisional survey documents a region where permanent human settlement is absent, replaced by the shifting dynamics of one of the largest glacial complexes in North America.
