Flathead National Forest encompasses this high-elevation landscape where the borders of Missoula, Flathead, and Powell counties converge. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent summits including Garnet Peak, Charlotte Peak, and Flame Peak, while drainage systems such as Big Salmon Cr and Holbrook Cr carve deep valleys through the wilderness. A significant hydrological feature is Big Salmon Lake, which occupies a large glacial trough in the northeastern quadrant of the sheet.
