Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Flathead National Forest dominate this landscape, centered on the western reaches of the prominent Big Salmon Lake. The terrain is defined by a series of high mountain peaks and ridgelines, including Charlotte Peak, Flame Peak, Garnet Peak, and Gyp Mtn. A network of backcountry routes provides the primary access through this roadless area, notably the Big Salmon Creek Trl, Garnet Peak Trl, and Holbrook Creek Trl. Drainage follows deep valleys where Big Salmon Creek and its tributaries, such as Charlotte Creek and Casey Creek, flow toward the lake. This 2024 survey captures the wilderness in its protected state, with topographic detail illustrating the dramatic elevation changes at Salmon Point and the steep descent of Barrier Falls. The map also traces the intersecting boundaries of Flathead, Missoula, and Powell counties in the high country.
