The Sugar Hills dominate the northern landscape of this Northwoods quadrangle, rising to the prominent summit of Big Thunder Peak. This high ground transitions into a complex hydrologic network of creeks and glacial basins, including the headwaters of Morrison Brook and Smith Cr. The southern half of the map is defined by low-lying wetlands and conservation efforts, notably within the Little Hill River Wildlife Impoundment, where the Little Hill River meanders across the border between Itasca and Aitkin Counties.
