The Okanogan National Forest covers much of this landscape, dominated by the prominent peaks of Blue Buck Mtn and Bowen Mtn. The drainage patterns here are complex, with the Beaver Cr watershed carving deep features like Pipestone Canyon and Wolf Canyon. Access through this high-country terrain is facilitated by a network of forest development roads, including the Twisp Winthrop Eastside Rd and Lester Rd, which connect various remote water bodies. Scattered throughout the mountain basins are several small lakes and ponds, most notably Cougar Lake, Bonner Lake, and the secluded Lamotte Pond. At lower elevations, the Beaver Campground serves as a focal point for recreation along the S Fork Beaver Cr.
