Methow State Wildlife Area and the Okanogan National Forest dominate this mountain landscape, which was updated at the turn of the 21st century by the Forest Service. The terrain is defined by a series of steep ridges and canyons, including Blue Buck Ridge and Coyote Ridge, which feed a network of water systems like Beaver Creek and Volstead Creek. Evidence of irrigation and water management is visible through the Chewuch Canal and a Gaging Sta located along the South Fork. Small upland water bodies such as Cougar Lake, Campbell Lake, and Bonner Lake are scattered throughout the highlands. The valley floor transitions toward the Methow River in the southwest, where infrastructure like Balky Hill Road and a local Gravel Pit indicate the footprint of rural industry and transport within the Methow Valley.
