Bonifay serves as the focal point of this Northwest Florida survey, situated at the intersection of local routes and the L & N RR. The landscape is defined by its complex hydrography, characterized by numerous "bays"—low-lying wetland depressions typical of the region—such as Bear Bay, Meetinghouse Bay, and Eighty Acre Bay. These features, along with winding watercourses like Wrights Cr and Gum Branch, shaped the early settlement patterns and road networks of Holmes County.
