The Salmo River meanders through this mountainous northern reach of Pend Oreille County, forming a complex drainage network near the international border. The landscape is defined by its hydrography, where the main river channel is fed by numerous tributaries including Swift Creek, Atkinson Creek, and Pete Creek. To the south, a small segment of the Pend-d'Oreille River is visible, joined by Russian Creek and Slate Creek.
