Breien sits along the southern edge of this landscape where the Dogtooth Cr joins the larger Cannonball River. The terrain is defined by the winding river valley and the prominent elevation of War Dance Hill to the west. This 2014 survey documents the boundary between Morton and Sioux Counties, tracing the path of the river as it meanders through the Missouri Plateau. A structured grid of section roads, including 26th Ave and 65th St, connects the sparse settlements and rural holdings. The northern reaches are drained by the E Fork Chanta Peta Cr, illustrating the typical drainage patterns of the North Dakota plains before the waters reach the Missouri River system to the east.
