Bruneau and the surrounding Bruneau Valley are defined by the convergence of desert plateaus and vital water systems. The landscape is heavily influenced by the presence of the C J Strike Reservoir, which occupies the northern reaches of the map where the Bruneau River meets larger downstream flows. This 2017 survey illustrates the sophisticated irrigation networks that support local agriculture, including the Buckaroo Ditch and the S Side Canal, which draw from the river to green the valley floor.
