About this map

The Bruneau River and Snake River converge in this high-desert landscape, where modern irrigation and historic corridors meet. The settlement of Bruneau serves as the hub for the surrounding Bruneau Valley, an area defined by the massive C J Strike Reservoir and its various offshoots like the Bruneau Arm and Cove Arm Lake. A distinct history of westward migration is preserved in the landscape through the Oregon Trail Rd and Emigrant Trl, which cut across the plateau north of the river. The reliance on water management is evident in the network of man-made features such as the Buckaroo Ditch and S Side Canal, which support agriculture in Little Valley against the backdrop of volcanic landforms like Crabb Butte.
