Burgaw serves as the central hub of this Pender County landscape, where the grid of the town center meets a complex network of coastal plain waterways. To the south, the settlement of St. Helena is positioned near the winding course of Cypress Creek, while the northern reaches include Van Eden and Murray Town. The drainage pattern is a defining characteristic of the region, with the Northeast Cape Fear River forming the eastern boundary. Numerous tributaries like Burgaw Creek, Little Burgaw Creek, and the eastern and western prongs of Osgood Branch create a dense hydrologic system.
