About this map

The northern reaches of Minot and the surrounding Ward County prairie appear here in the late 1940s, captured shortly after aerial photography was conducted by the Geological Survey and Bureau of Reclamation. The landscape is defined by the winding course of Livingston Creek, which feeds into Livingston Lake before cutting through the townships of Eureka and McKinley. The rural character of the era is evidenced by a network of numbered schoolhouses, including School No 1, School No 3, and School No 4, which served the scattered farmsteads of the region.
