1966 Map of Calcutta Lake

USGS Topo · Published 1969

About this map

Sheldon National Antelope Refuge dominates the eastern landscape of this high desert region in northern Washoe County. The 1960s terrain is characterized by a series of significant depressions and seasonal water bodies, most notably the wide expanse of Calcutta Lake and the southern Middle Lake. This arid environment necessitated the establishment of remote outposts such as Calcutta Ranch and Wimer Place, which appear as small human imprints alongside the vast drainage of Long Valley.
