Anthony Creek and Dunlap Creek define the drainage of this mountain landscape along the border of West Virginia and Virginia during the mid-1940s. The area is heavily wooded, split between the Monongahela National Forest and the George Washington National Forest, with small mountain communities like Neola and Shryock following the narrow valley floors. Transportation is concentrated along the river gaps, where the Chesapeake and Ohio RR and U.S. 60 traverse the terrain near Callaghan.
