Marsh Creek winds through the central valley of this Idaho landscape, where the Boise National Forest meets the Challis National Forest. Surveyed in the early 1970s, the terrain is defined by the high elevations of the Cape Horn Range and the Sawtooth Range. The hydrological network is dense, featuring numerous alpine water bodies such as Lola Lakes, Collie Lake, and the cluster at Cape Horn Lakes. Along the western edge, the Middle Fork Salmon River is identified as a Wild and Scenic River, reflecting its protected status. Human activity is largely concentrated on recreation and infrastructure, indicated by the Lola Creek Campground, the Beaver Creek Campground, and a Gaging Station located near the intersection of several unnamed roads and a network of pack trails.
