The Desatoya Mountains dominate the northwestern corner of this landscape, where the rugged topography of the Great Basin drops away into the Smith Creek Valley. This area is defined by its critical water sources, scattered across the arid terrain in the form of numerous named seeps such as Clay Spring, Stoker Spring Number One, and Corral Spring. These springs historically dictated movement and survival in this portion of the high desert.
