Cherry Lake and the northern outskirts of Madison define this part of Florida's north-central corridor as it appeared in the early 21st century. The landscape is characterized by a high density of sinkhole lakes and depressions, ranging from the prominent Garden Pond and Dobson Pond to uniquely named features like Ocean Hole and Hankins Sink Pond. These water bodies are interspersed with low-lying wetlands such as Caulk Flats and the curiously labeled Devils Woodyard in the southwestern corner.
