About this map

Banner Mtn overlooks a landscape defined by the legacies of hydraulic and hard-rock mining near the border of Nevada and Placer counties. Evidence of the region's industrial past is visible in the numerous excavations, including the Lava Cap Mine and the Banner Mine (Inactive), alongside extensive Placer Diggings near the curiously named settlements of You Bet and Red Dog. The complex water management system required for these operations is mapped through several conduits, such as the Cascade Canal and the Chicagopark Ditch, which redirect flow across the ridges toward the Bear River.
