The rugged western slopes are characterized by numerous named canyons including Marca Canyon, Capita Canyon, and the distinctively named Right Angle Canyon. These watercourses flow eastward from the hills toward the flatter agricultural lands of the Central Valley.

Settlement is sparse and centered on established family operations like Chounet Ranch and Wood Ranch, which are connected by a developing grid of rural routes. While the western portion of the sheet remains largely undeveloped grazing or oil-prospecting land, indicated by a lone Prospect label near Nonada Hill, the eastern edge transitions into the more structured valley floor along Russell Avenue. Along the southern boundary, Panoche Creek provides a natural corridor, followed by the winding Panoche Road.
